Gambia braces up for Independence Anniversary

Several heads of state have been invited to grace the occasion for Gambia’s 50th Indepedence Anniversary to be celebrated Wednesday 18 February 2015.

Among the guests expected to grace the occasion are Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, John Mahama of Ghana, Macky Sall of Senegal, Alpha Conde of Guinea Conkary, President Val of Guinea Bissau, and Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, there will be a reception at the Kairaba Beach Hotel. A banquet has also been scheduled for Wednesday at the Coco Ocean Hotel in Kerr Serign.

On Independence Day, the general public celebration will be held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, where there will be parade of security forces, schoolchildren and organizations, as well as entertainment by various cultural groups.
