Sports journalists from the AIPS-affiliated national associations of 113 countries will gather for the AIPS Congress to be officially opened by Russian Minister for Sport, Mr Vitaly Mutko, in the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Olympic City of Sochi this week (April 15-19).
The congress will see the quadrennial AIPS election for the Executive Committee to take place on the morning of April 17.
Positions for the Presidency and First Vice-presidency are uncontested, while a large number of candidates have registered for the posts of treasurer (1 position to be contested), vice-president (4 positions), and members (13 positions).
Two candidates have withdrawn from the list of candidates: Mr El Hacen Mohamed (Mauritania), who was initially nominated for both vice-president and executive committee member, and Ms Kujabi-Njie Sainabou (Gambia) who was on the list of candidates for membership of the Executive Committee.
