The GAF women basketball team last Saturday defeated Saint’s by 9-8 points at their All-Star Basketball Competition held at the Basketball Court at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
The second game was followed by the male category where Yellow team defeated Green team by 60-57 points.
The game of the night went to the wire with players showing their slam dunk and the three-point shooting skills.
In the first female competition, Fanta Sallah emerged as the most valuable and outstanding performer throughout the clash and got awarded a trophy at the end of the competition.
Baboucarr Ceesay also got awarded a trophy as the most valuable player at the clash.
In the old hands team, Mama Jeng, Binneh Marong, Yassin Joof Jow, Awa Foon, Mbaheh Camara and others took on the younger players for a ten-minute game. Old hands defeated the young players in that encounter.
At the end of the first game, numerous trophies and certificates were presented to various dignitaries, which included the GNOC, for their financial and morale support during the year.
Certificate was also given to the US Ambassador to The Gambia for their support to basketball such as sponsoring the previous 3X3 basketball tournament which saw players from different ages display their talents.
Basketballs were also distributed to the male and female clubs. Each received 5 balls including Old Hands female basketball team who received 2 balls.
Thirty balls were given for primary school sport and 30 for secondary school sport.
Seven regional sports coordinators received 5 balls, Combined Services Sports Association 3, Basketball Academy 4 and the University of The Gambia 5.
Trust Bank Gambia Limited received also a certificate of appreciation for sponsoring basketball, which took into consideration their donation of $1,000 for airlifting 300 basketballs from the FIBA Africa office in Ivory Coast to Banjul.
The bank has always been a socially responsible corporate entity and has contributed immensely to the development of sport in the country.
