GABA Suspension Lifted

The Interim Council of the National Sports Council (NSC) has decided to lift the suspension on the Interim Gambia Boxing Association (GABA), with effect from 10th November 2009, according to a release from the National Sports Council.

The Gambia Boxing Association that participated in the AIBA World Boxing Championships held from 1-12 September 2009 in Milan, Italy, was suspended for further investigation, following allegations of visa fraud in connection with their trip.

According to the release, the decision to lift the suspension was reached by the Council as satisfied that the Boxing Association "had shown no trace of visa fraud or human trafficking connected with their trip..."

"The NSC is satisfied with the investigation carried out and the Executive of the Gambia Boxing Association are instructed to hold elections before the start of 2010," the release stated.

"The action is taken on the basis of the authority of the National Sports Council Act 2000. The general public is hereby urged to facilitate this process and exercise the overall interest of sports in The Gambia," the release concluded.

The Interim Gambia Boxing Association members are: Tamsir Sarr (President), Alpha Camara (Vice-President), Simon Colley (Secretary-General), Mamudou Drammeh (Treasurer), Ebrima Jallow (Assistant Secretary-General), Salieu Jagne (Auditor), and Momomdou Jagne (Assistant Technical Director).
