Fortune FC lash Bakau Utd to top GFF 2nd division after Red Hawks slip to Young Africans

Fortune FC on Friday hammered Bakau United 5-1 in the week-seven fixtures played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium to top the 2016-2017 Gambia Football Federation second division league after Red Hawks slip to Young African in the all-Banjul derby clash played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on the same day.

Fortune FC are joint second spot with Lions of Banjul  in the second tier before their stunning win over the Bakau-based outfit to top the league standings after league leaders Red Hawks lost to Young Africans 1-0 at the Manjai Kunda biggest football arena at the weekend to drop three vital points.

The defeat was Red Hawks’ second loss since the start of the second tier in November 2016.

Lions of Banjul beat Banjul United 1-0 in the all-Banjul derby clash to maintain their unbeaten run in the second tier.

Serrekunda East defeated Wallidan on the same score line at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day to improve their position in the league.

Elsewhere, Blue Star are still languishing bottom place in the second tier after losing to BK Milan 1-0 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on the same day.

League leaders Fortune FC are with 15 points in seven league matches and Lions of Banjul are second with 15 points in seven outings. But Fortune FC are leading on goal difference.

Red Hawks, who were leading the standing before Christmas and New Year’s break, are now with 13 points in seven league matches.

Brufut United and Young Africans are fourth and fifth respectively with 11 points each in seven league games and Wallidan are sixth place with 10 points in seven league matches.
