The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Fatim Badjie, is currently involving in community service in her neighborhood - Kanifing East.
The ultimate objective of the youth football tournament dubbed One Love Tournament is to promote unity and bring together youths involving in community development schemes in Kanifing East.
The other purpose of the friendly tournament to be played between the two Kanifing East areas layout and Estate, which have four teams each, is to get the youths involved in something through the coordination efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in a bid to put up a youth council in that area and many other things involving the community and the council of KMC on key issues.
The full text of a press release on the issue sent to Pointsport desk and signed by Minister Fatim Badjie reads: Lately, I took up an initiative to get involved in community service in my neighborhood Kanifing East. I realised that a high youth populace exist and there was really no organised stricture or activity available for them.
They couldn’t event afford to emend their football field and among many other issues, couldn’t play any tournament this year.
I have therefore decided to organize a tournament to get the youths involved in something and we have also through the coordination and efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports started to put up a youth council in that area and many other things involving the community and council of KMC on key issues.
The aforementioned football marathon called One Love Tournament, the purpose is to promote unity and bring youth involvement in community development in schemes in Kanifing East.
The tournament is a friendly game between the two Kanifing East areas layout and Estate, which have four teams each. Each area will have a cheerleading team (for girls), which will participate at each match and complete in the final for a small prize.
The whole community (youths and adults) are behind the idea and everyone is excited. The Special aspect of this tournament is that the 75% of the cash prize will be invested back into the community to enhance or work on one issue or two.
So far the tournament has raised funds for the community project alone and the refurbishment of the Kanifing East Football Field to begin with.
