The
Gambia Cricket Association (GCA) over the weekend introduced the game of
cricket to the Farafenni Barracks.
The
three-day training program on the basics of cricket was held at the Farafenni
barracks, organized by The Gambia Cricket Association.
The
training which brought together 63 participants under the 2nd Infantry
Battalion was aimed at involving the security personnel into the game of
cricket.
The training program was on two aspects, as 46
security officials were trained on fielding, batting and bowling, while 17 were
trained on umpiring and scoring.
Speaking
during the training, Captain Baboucarr Ngum said the involvement of 2nd
Infantry Battalion was overwhelming, saying he will include cricket in the
sporting events of their camps.
He
went on to thank the camp Commander and participants for their cooperation
during the training program.
Lt.
Abdoulie Jallow, a participant said “I am very happy to learn about cricket and
found the game to be very interesting.’’
According
to him, training them about the game will give them the opportunity to be more
exposed about it. He concluded by thanking the association and urged them to be
organising more training.
