Eliman Janneh a famous Gambian football fan, who has devoted the better part of his life in support of Gambian football, has urged the country’s football authorities including President Yahya Jammeh to consider rendering as much support as needed to coach Lamin Sarr and his charges, as the team intensify preparations for the CAF African U-20 youth tournament to be held in South Africa.

The Under-20 team has not had the adequate preparation it needed to enhance their preparations ahead of the Johannesburg championship, much to the dismay of the man at the helm of affairs, Lamin Sarr, who has made no secret of his disappointment regarding the poor preparation his team has in the build-up to the CAF event, which runs from 17 April to 1 May 2011.

Eliman has become the latest Gambian fan to speak in support of coach Sarr’s bitter complaint about the poor preparation for the 2007 bronze medalist in Congo Brazaville.

Speaking yesterday to Pointsport at the team’s training camp at Seaview Hotel, Eliman who has travelled with the Gambia’s senior national team on a few occasions, including to Cape Verde, said the darling Scorpions can only deliver the desire results when they are given good preparation.

Janneh called on the Gambian people to support Lamin Sarr in his preparations saying, “Sarr is only given the responsibility to head the team, but it is everybody’s responsibility to see to it that the team is given all the necessary support it required to enable them have a good tournament.

“If we want to celebrate glory in South Africa, we should join efforts to help the darling Scorpions who are the country’s only hope at the continental youth showpiece, and this is everybody’s business,” Janneh lamented.

Despite Gambia being drawn in a group rated as the group of death, that includes Nigeria, Cameroon and the defending champions Ghana, Eliman is hopeful that the U-20 can bring glory to the nation.
