Ex-convict jailed
By Magistrate Sainabou Singhateh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Monday convicted and sentenced one Sedia Sandeng, an ex-convict to one year in prison with hard labour for theft.
According to the facts of the case as narrated before the court, the incident took place on 11 February 2012, at Brikama, when the complainant went out of his shop to fetch water.
The convict, who was coming from the town, saw the shop open and he entered into it in the absence of the complainant and took D2,000 from the box and D100 scratch card.
The facts stated that when the convict was coming out of the shop, he met with the complainant and he pushed the complainant and ran away.
It added that the complainant followed him to his compound and the convict locked himself to keep the complainant away from reaching him.
The matter was reported to the Brikama Police Station and the convict was eventually arrested.
A search was conducted on him and D350 was found.
Cautionary and voluntary statements were obtained from him.
The convict, who admitted to the facts, begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The court was told the convict was not a first-time offender, as he was convicted some time in December 2009.
The court was also told the convict had a pending case of similar offence at the same court.
