Jun 8, 2015, 11:03 AM

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Banjul read on Friday on state TV said the Gambia Government has asked the charge d’Affaires of the European Union to The Gambia, Madam Agnes Guillaud, to leave the jurisdiction of The Gambia within 72 hours.

The release stated that the notice is effective Friday 5 June.

No official reason was given for the expulsion.

The EU diplomat Agnes Guillaud, a French national, came to The Gambia in 2011.

In her remarks on Europe Day celebrated on May 9 this year, Ms Guillaud said: “This is my last speech in The Gambia because my mission in The Gambia is coming to an end.”

When contacted by this paper for her reaction to the expulsion, she declined to comment.

According to press reports, EU headquarters in Brussels told the press that no reason had been given to them for the expulsion of Ms Guillaud.
