Farm Engineering FC midfielder Ernest Gibba’s 29th-minute strike has inspired Kartong to their first-ever Kombo South district Football tournament title after losing to Sanyang and Farato in the final in 2000 and 2008.
The Folonko boys beat beach boys Tanji 1-0 in a well-contested final game played at the Sanyang Football Field on Sunday.
The beach boys made astonishing start to the game and dominated the game as well as created numerous goal-scoring opportunities but failed to utilise their chances.
The Folonko boys, who were unable to establish themselves in the game, opened the scores through Farm Engineering FC midfielder Ernest Gibba in the 29th minute of the game to give Folonko boys the lead, which eventually proved to be the winner for Kartong and also their first-ever Kombo South district football tournament title.
The beach boys reacted quickly for an equalizer and created few goal-scoring opportunities but could not break through Kartong’s solid defence line thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Kartong.
Tanji finished the game with ten men after Lamin Janneh was sent off for unsporting behaviour.
As champions, Kartong walked away with a giant trophy and cash prize of D15,000, whilst Tanji received D10,000 as runners-up.
