A
delegation of ECOWAS leaders is due in The Gambia today, in respect of the
initial planned visit on Wednesday 11 January.
The
decision was taken at a one-day ECOWAS summit held recently in the Nigerian capital,
Abuja.
The
delegation includes Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, Liberia’s President
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who is the chairperson of ECOWAS, Sierra Leone’s
President Ernest Bai Koroma and Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama.
They
would also be accompanied by representatives of the United Nations and the
African Union.
This
will be the second attempt of ECOWAS leaders to visit The Gambia in efforts to
resolve the political impasse that emanated from the December 1 presidential
poll result.
