Principal Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court recently convicted Ebrima Kanteh and Salifu Gaye for unlawfully entering into the shop of one Zidan Karaan with intent to commit felony therein to wit stealing.

Ebrima Kanteh was convicted and sentenced to one year, six months in prison with hard labour, while the second convict, Salifu Gaye, was sentenced in absentia to a fine of D2500, in default to serve six months in prison with hard labour.

The presiding Magistrate, in her judgement, told the court that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. She stated that the prosecution in support of their case had called in two witnesses to testify, while the convicts only testified on their defence but did not call any witness.

The convicts in their plea of mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy. The first convict further stated that he is an ulcer patient, and that he was advised by the doctor not to go hungry.
