Driver convicted for traffic offences

Magistrate Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Alieu Khan, a driver to a fine of D500 in default to serve six months in prison for traffic offences.

Alieu Khan was found guilty on charges of driving a motor vehicle which did not meet the required standard, and dangerous driving.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecuting officer, Inspector L. Touray, stated that it happened on 2 May 2011, at Old Yundum Village along coastal junction.

He said the convict was driving a motor vehicle with registration number BJL 4994C and upon arrival at the junction he failed to stop to observe both sides of the road.

The prosecutor further narrated that at the time to the incident there was another vehicle with registration number BJL 8391C which was coming from Banjul towards Brikama.

The accused was unable to control his vehicle and as a result knocked a bridge, he said, adding that the matter was reported to the Old Yundum Police Station and the scene was visited.

A sketched plan was constructed and the vehicle was tested, he said, adding that the convict was later issued with the testing certificate.
