Disappointing Start for Gambia U-17

The Gambia had two men sent off as they lost 2-0 to Iran yesterday at the Under-17 World Cup in Nigeria.

The Baby Scorpions were stung in the 33rd minute in Calabar when Buba Sama was sent off for a second yellow card.

Iran then grabbed the lead on the stroke of half-time through their captain Payam Sadeghian.

Then with six minutes left in the game Kaveh Rezaei sealed the victory for Iran.

The African champions were reduced to nine men in the dying minutes of the match when Demba Janneh was shown a straight red card.

The Gambia?s next match is on Wednesday against Holland while Colombia will play Iran.

Burkina Faso never managed to recover from conceding an early goal in Group D in Enugu as they lost to Turkey 1-0.

Turkey captain Demir Muhammet scored the only goal of the game after just three minutes.
