In a bid to complement government's efforts, German philanthropists on Monday donated fifty bags of rice and educational materials to St. Patricks Lower Basic School, at a ceremony held at the school ground. The donation, which has been described as timely, came through a foundation called Diabgroup
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Peter H.A Jatta, Headmaster of the school expressed gratitude to the donors for what he described as "timely and generous gesture."
He noted that although the German philanthropists have been rendering valuable support to his school, this latest donation was a big surprise to the school. He described the donors as real friends of The Gambia.
Mr. Jatta also revealed that the foundation last year donated four solar panels to St. Patrick Lower Basic School in Darsilami village in the Kombo North.
Noting that they have been very helpful to the school, he said, his school staff has never encountered shortage of educational materials. The donated bags of rice, he added, are meant for the students of the school to support their parents. He disclosed that the foundation is sponsoring 46 students in his school for the past six year.
While stating that the donors are contributing immensely towards the attainment of Vision 2020, he said, the donors are not only supporting The Gambia, but also contributing and complementing President Jammeh's Vision 2020 objective. He assured the donors that the donated materials would be accordingly distributed.
For his part, Buba Sedibeh, one of the team delegates from The Gambia thanked the donors for their wonderful gifts. He urged them to continue their generosity.
