Defence opens in suspected stolen property case

One Ousman Dibba, who was charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property on 19th April 2010,testified at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Nying.

Testifying before the court, the accused, Ousman Dibba told the court that he lives in New Yundum and can recall on 16th March 2010.

According to him, on the day in question he brought his goat from Salikenni to sell. He added that he could not get documents from the village Alkalo, as he was reported to be sick and left to Banjul for medication.

He testified that he disembarked at Iceman, where he tried to tide the goat with a rope, when a taxi driver approached him and accused him of stealing his goat.

Subsequently, he added, he was later escorted with the goat to the Kanifing Estate Police Station, where a statement was obtained from him.

The case was adjourned to 22nd April 2010 for continuation.
