One Lamin Faye, charged with rape before the Special Criminal Court in Banjul, recently continued his defence.

The accused told the court he never raped the victim as alleged and he did not even know the victim in question.

He said he is unmarried and lives alone, adding that whenever he came from work he stays in his room till the following day.

He was arrested on 11 July 2011, in his compound in Sukuta village, Kombo North District of the West Coast Region, by officers from the Bundung Police Station, he explained.

The accused added that he was later taken to the police headquarters in Banjul, where a statement was obtained from him and was asked whether if he saw the statement he would be able to recognize it.

The said cautionary statement was tendered and admitted as exhibit.

All what was said against him in court was false, he said, adding that some of them testified against him because of the hatred they have for him as a neighbour, since he was not in good terms with some of them.

The case continues.
