The
Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in The Gambia was on Friday unveiled
at its office in Bijilo to make it a fully-fledged embassy in the country.
The
Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia, Zhang Jiming, said: “Within a short period of
time, the process was very successful.
You can see for yourself that we have a very nice location and compound;
this will facilitate our work here to work closely with government and people
of The Gambian to look for immense opportunities and to promote the concrete
outcome for our bilateral cooperation which will benefit the people.
“The
Chinese government is fully supportive of the development agenda of Barrow’s
government.”
For
his part, Ousainou Darboe, Foreign Minister of The Gambia, said: “We have
started benefitting a lot from China.
Across the street, a place is cleared for the construction of a 50
million US dollars conference centre which is a grant.
“We
recently received a team of highly trained doctors coming to enhance our health
delivery, expansion and modernisation of the port in Banjul which will really
enhance trade and deliver institutions of The Gambia.
“We
envisage the level of our bilateral cooperation will go higher, bigger and more
beneficial trust.”
