D6m fraud case reaches court

Momodou Ceesay and Alagie Saibou Kebbeh were on Friday 18th December arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Ikpala of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and conspiracy to defraud. They denied the charges.

According to the particulars of offence, on count one, Momodou Ceesay in the year 2006 at Serrekunda and diverse areas by false pretences and with intent to defraud, obtained various sums of monies amounting to 115, 000, 000 CFA (equivalent to D6, 000, 000) from one Sidy Wilan, a Senegalese national, under the pretext of providing him with a juju for self defence, knowing same to be false.

The particulars of offence, on count two, stated that Momodou Ceesay and Alagie Saibou Kebbeh in the same year and at the same place by false pretences jointly conspired to obtain in various sums, monies amounting to 115, 000, 000 CFA equivalent to D6, 000, 000 from Sidy Wilan, a Senegalese national, knowing same to be false.

The prosecuting officer, ASP Sanneh, applied to the court not to grant bail to the accused persons on the grounds that investigations are ongoing.

Magistrate Ikpala granted the application and remanded the accused persons in custody.

The case continues.
