D500, 000 for babies of the year

First Lady Zeinab Yahya Jammeh Friday presided over the 11th edition of the annual Operation Save a Baby provision of gifts held at the RVTH hospital in Banjul, where she made a handsome donation of D500,000 to the first five babies of the year.

The first baby of the year, delivered by Haddy Khan of Sinchu Alagie in Kombo North, weight 3.8 kilos, was also sponsored by Gamtel, which donated D25,000 to the baby.

Sally Camara of Bansang delivered the first baby boy of the year, sponsored by Guaranty Trust Bank, and received D25,000.

The first baby girl of the year was delivered by Sukai Jobe of Manjai Kunda, and she received a cash donation of D10,000, with the D15,000 to be used to open an account for the baby, plus D5,000 worth of gifts, all sponsored by Trust Bank.

Allen Street
in Banjul delivered the first twins of the year. She went home with D25, 000 sponsored by the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC).

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady congratulated the mothers of the newly born babies, and underscored her resolve to continue supporting the first babies of the year.

She commended the Operation Save a Baby Committee for their contributions to making the annual event successful.

Tombong Saidy, chairperson of the committee, highlighted the numerous contributions of Operation Save a Baby in complementing the government’s efforts in developing the health sector.

He commended the first lady for her support to the committee, and the newly born babies.

In delivering the vote of thanks, Professor Dr. Ousman Nyan also commended the first lady and all the other sponsors for their kind support to the babies.

He also commended the nurses for what he described as a job well done.
