The highly competitive Gambia Cricket Association five-team cricket league is heading for expansion before the start of the 2010 National Cricket League next month.

The league which is competed by Wallidan, GPA, the Veterans, Safeway/Asia XI and defending Champions Jewel of India have produced outstanding and promising talents, and a source of inspiration for aspiring cricketers who filled the stands watching every cricket league game at the July 22nd Square, coupled with the number of students trained by that association at primary and secondary school levels.

"The process for team registration which is currently on the way at the Gambia Cricket Association Secretariat in Banjul," according to Johnny Gomez, the President of the Gambia Cricket Association, "is meant to encourage more participants in this year's league geared towards achieving positive results at national and international competitions."

The formalisation of team’s participation which is set to close on Monday December 25 will set the stage for the start of the 2010 league mid-February.

Jewel of India which has proven to be a strong force in Gambian cricket, are currently the record holder after sweeping home last year’s league title, and went ahead to win the just concluded TATA Safari Motors T-20 tournament by beating strong contenders Safeway/Asia XI.
