COVID-19 update:Laboratory report of 4th sample pending

The director of Health Promotion and Education at the Ministry of Health Modou Njai, in a press briefing yesterday said that the laboratory report of the fourth sample sent to the MRC was pending as the sample was collected for further testing and analysis.

He added that the compound of the third confirmed case has been put on quarantine since the evacuation of the patient from the village.

Gambia has so far confirmed three cases of covid-19 with only one death and one probable case at the moment.

“At least 177 people are on quarantine and no one added still. People with travel history to affected the country still remain; 310 and 73 people are being traced. Total test conducted as at now; we have 52 and positive test result is 3, negative test result 47 and one pending result.”

Njai told press officers that plans are underway to have samples collected from the high-risk contacts of URR confirmed case, regular monitoring of all people under quarantine and tracing of contacts and contacts of contacts of the confirmed cases are still ongoing.

“Four samples collected but results from MRC are pending. We have 821 calls received from the toll number and 228 related to community case surveillance report, 315 calls received enquiry of signs and symptoms, 278 not related to COVID-19 at all and 118 refers to contact tracing team for follow up.

He said the probable case will be transferred to treatment center, and protective equipment will be provided to all health personals conducting outreach services.
