Convict earns two-year imprisonment

Fallou Marra, who was standing trial for assault, causing actual bodily harm, was recently convicted by the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Tabally.

Marra was sentenced to two-year jail term without any option of a fine and was also ordered to compensate the complainant with D10,000 after he was found guilty of the offence charged.

After perusing through the testimonies adduced by the prosecution witnesses and that of the convict, before passing the verdict, Magistrate Tabally reminded the court of the offence the convict was charged with.

The presiding magistrate announced that the convict was found guilty of the offence charged, after giving a summary of the evidence adduced by the witnesses.

After  the convict pleaded for mercy, the magistrate subsequently sentenced him accordantly, saying that the offence committed was serious and could result to a serious arm string.

According to the charge sheet, the convict, on 28 December 2010, at London Corner, assaulted one Modou Alieu Mendy on his hand with a bottle, thereby causing actual bodily harm.
