Magistrate E. Jaiteh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court recently convicted one Malanding Dampha of Manduarr for escaping from lawful custody.
The facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, Sgt 2294 Lamin Jammeh, said the incident happened on 13 April 2015 at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
The accused person was brought before the court for theft together with his co-accused person, Ousman Touray, and they were in the other courtroom waiting for their trial.
He was put in handcuffs together with the said Ousman Touray, and removed the handcuff, escaped from the lawful custody of the police and went to his village at Manduarr.
The police mounted an investigation and later heard information that the accused person was in his village.
They went to Manduarr on 19 April and succeeded in arresting the accused, who was brought to Brikama Police Station.
The matter was adjourned for sentence.
