Man afor fraud and forgery

A man called Lamin Ceesay was Wednesday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and forgery.

He denied the charges and was granted court bail of D250, 000 with two Gambian sureties who must deposit title deed and swear to an affidavit of means, as well as deposit their ID cards.

The charge sheet on count one stated that the accused, Lamin Ceesay, between June and October 2012, at Kanifing and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality,obtained from Modou Lamin Singhateh and twenty-two others, D104,000 under the pretext that he was going to enroll them at the Hotel School, knowing such representation to be false or unfounded.

Count two of the charge sheet read that he made false documents and receipts purportedly from the Hotel School with the intention to deceive or defraud.

The case, presided over by Magistrate Tabally, was adjourned till 2 January 2013.
