Carnegie Mineral Trial Continues

The trial of Carnegie Mineral Company and its General Manager, Andrew Charles Northfield, continued yesterday at the Banjul High Court before Justice Naceesay Salla-wadda.

Andrew Charles Northfield, General Manager, and the company itself, are standing trial on three counts of Economic Crime and one count of stealing.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Salla-Wadda stated that after hearing the application made by the prosecution and the reply by the defense counsel, the court ruled that the application should be made formally and be filed with the court within two days from the date of the ruling, adding that the defense also should file their reply afterwards.

It would be recalled that the prosecution earlier on made an oral application to effect substituted services of the indictmentsto the first accused through the second accused, Andrew Charles Northfield

The case was adjourned to April 17th2008.

Meanwhile, explaining the reason behind the arrest of Andrew Charles Northfield, the police Public Relations Officer said that the accused was invited by the police to clarify certain issues, after which he was released in a matter of few hours.
