Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Lamin Camara to a fine of D3,000 in default to serve seven weeks in prison.
Lamin Camara, who was found liable for breaking into a building with intent to commit a felony, was also ordered to pay a compensation of D3,000 in default to serve one month in prison.
The facts as narrated by Inspector Jarju stated that it happened on 7 September 2014, between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The complainant, who left his home for his store located at the Kanifing Industrial area, came to found out that his building was broken into.
He said he went inside the building and found the accused and he asked him what he was doing there but the accused could not give any reasonable account.
The accused was apprehended and taken to Kanifing Police Station, he said, adding that the police visited the scene and found that the building was broken into.
The accused was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
The charge sheet read that on 7 September 2014, at the Kanifing Industrial Area, the convict broke and entered into a building of one Lamin Njie with intent to commit a felony, therein wit stealing.
