Bundung Red Cross link holds evaluation

The Bundung Home Red Cross Link, an affiliate of the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) last Saturday held its 13th annual evaluation and inauguration ceremony, at the link's branch in Bundung.

Speaking at the ceremony, the outgoing Link Leader, Mr. Njogou Jeng revealed that the Bundung Home Red Cross link was founded on 1st August 1996, at Bundung Jatta Kunda, by one Alieu B Sanyang, who at the time served as Link Leader.

He said the link has on 4th January 1997 transferred to Kanifing Municipality Red Cross branch, with only 20 registered active members.

He however maintained that the link today has a registered membership of about 250 volunteers, out of which 90 percent are students.

He added that Bundung Home Red Cross Link has been embarking on a series of activities, namely disaster preparedness response and management, HIV/AIDS sensitisation, voluntary counseling and testing, dissemination on the aims, ideals and fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement, first aid training, among others. Others, he said, include helping the needy students, radio and community-based sensitisation programme, as well as volunteers' recruitment and capacity building.

Addressing the volunteers, the Secretary-General of the GRCS, Mr. Momodou Bah described the link as one of the strongest links within the Kanifing Municipality.

He hailed them for their giant strides in pursuing Red Cross’ mission statement.

As part of the programme, the 4th edition of the "Leche Jamanoo News Letter" was also launched.
