The British High Commission to The Gambia says it is encouraging Gambian students to consider entering the Royal Commonwealth Society’s 2013 Essay Competition.

A recent news release by the High Commission said the competition, in partnership with Cambridge University Press, has been run by the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) since 1883 and is the world’s oldest and largest international writing competition for young people.

The theme of this year’s competition is ‘Opportunity Through Enterprise’ and participants are invited to enter via post or online from January 2013.

Anyone under or 18 years of age can take part in the competition.  The deadline for entries is 1 May 2013.  Prizes to be won include trips to London and customised I-Pods.

In 2012, over 1,000 young writers, from 245 schools, in 38 countries across the Commonwealth, received  awards for their entry.

Schools or students can get more information on the programme at the British High Commission in Fajara on 4495133 or BHC Banjul @fco.gov.uk, where they can receive a free flyer and information pack.
