West Coast Region giants Brikama United climbed on top of the 2010-11 Gambia Football Association division (GFA) one league following their hard fought 1-0 win over City boys Real De Banjul in week four fixtures at the Brikama Mini-stadium on Saturday.
Modou Njie-Sarr could have put Real De Banjul in front after 7 minutes into the game when he capitalised on a Brikama United defensive blunder but his effort was denied by Brikama United goalkeeper Baboucarr Sanyang.
Brikama United, who were defending and relied on counter attacks, created few goal-scoring opportunities.
Real De Banjul, during the second half, lost their control in the midfield and allowed Brikama United to take over and dominated ball possession.
Brikama, in the 54th minute through full-back Abdoulie Bojang, netted their lone goal from the cross of Modou Jallow, alias Louis Figo, to snatch a victory that has so far placed them on top of the league with 8 points in four games.
Real De Banjul now lie second from bottom with only 2 points.
Bakau United lost to the current FA and Super cup Champions Gamtel 1-0 in the other week four clash at the Banjul KG5 Mini-stadium on the same day.
Bakau United are now 2nd on the league standing with 7 points, a single point ahead of 3rd position GPA. Gamtel are 5th on the league standing with 5 points.
