The Minister of Fisheries, Water Resources and National Assembly Matters, Hon. Lamin Kabba Bajo,  on behalf of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Sheriff Gomez, on Saturday presided over the launching ceremony of Brikama United’s road to the 2012 CAF African champions league, at the Brikama Box Bar Mini--stadium.

In his launching statement, Hon. Bajo applauded the former president of Brikama Youth and Sports Committee, Lamin King Colley, for the formation of Brikama United.

He thanked the players and the coaching staff of the team for lifting the national league title for the first time in its history.

According to Hon. Bajo, playing in the champions league requires adequate funds. “Brikama Youth and Sports Committee alone cannot fund the team in their participation to the 2012 CAF champions league,” he noted.

He seized the opportunity to call on the people of Brikama and its environs to come forward and render support to Brikama United in their drive to generate adequate funds for the team’s participation in the upcoming champions league.

Bajo also urged members of the Brikama Youth and Sports Committee to extend their fundraising exercise to those in the Diaspora to generate enough funds for the team’s participation in the continent’s elite competition.

Speaking earlier, the chief of Kombo Central, Alhagie Dembo Kelen Bojang, said he was ready to support Brikama United in their drive to generate funds for their participation in the competition.

He said that up to 25 wards in Brikama would contribute their quota towards the Brikama United road to CAF champions league campaign.

Alagie S. Darbo, secretary general of Brikama United, said the club took part in the 2003 West Coast Region third division qualifiers and gained promotion to division two in 2004.

He also hailed the former president of Brikama Youth and Sports Committee, Lamin King Colley, for his excellent contribution towards the formation of Brikama United.

For his part, the president of Brikama United, Basiru Bajo, urged the natives of Brikama and its satellite areas to come out and support the team in their drive to generate enough funds for the team’s participation in the championship.
