As the 2012 summer football competition, better known as the Nawettan season, is fast approaching across the country, the 2012 Brikama Youth and Sports Committee (BYSC) Nawettan qualifier is underway at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.
Chanters FC of Farato village beat Wood Pickers FC of Banjulinding village 2-1 in the opening game witnessed by a large crowd from Brikama and its satellite areas.
Both sides put up respectable performance and created several goal-scoring chances but it was Chanters who carried the day after netting two goals to snatch a slender victory that has earned them a place in the second round of the qualifier.
Wood Pickers fought tooth and nail for equalisers but managed to score one goal, which eventually proved to be a consolation tablet and are therefore automatically out of the qualifier till next season.
Elsewhere, Bantaba FC of Jamisa also defeated Kembujeh FC on the same score-line in the other qualifier game to book a place in the second round of the qualifier.
