Boost for Kiang Masembe, Kolior Villages

Peter Buddemeyer, a US citizen on a visit in The Gambia, recently donated cleansing materials to the villages of Kiang Masembe and Kolior in the Lower River Region.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the village of Masembe, Peter Budd said: “A clean environment is a necessity to a healthy society.” This fact, he said, is what compelled him to help the villages.

He added that the materials were actually donated by friends in America who pledged to cooperate with him to support the two villages.

In their remarks, the beneficiaries said they were grateful to the donors for the “timely gesture”, adding that the materials “will go a long way in helping them to maintain a clean environment”.

Meanwhile, to motivate people in the villages to keep the environment clean and free from grime, a “healthy village” competition has been staged between the two villages of Masembe and Kolior. The goal of the competition is to make each village a healthier, happier place and to inspire others in The Gambia to do the same.
