Bicycle Thieves Convicted

Alhagie Kejera and Alhagie Sonko were recently convicted and sentenced to a fine of D1000 each, in default to serve three months imprisonment each for stealing a pedal bicycle.

According to the facts of the case as narrated by Police Prosecutor, 1st Class 2294 Lamin Jammeh, it happened on 24th October 2009, at Gunjur beach site. He said the complainant had packed his bicycle and went to pray only to realise that the bicycle was missing when he returned back.

He narrated that one Mustapha Jabang informed the complainant that he saw two boys carrying a bicycle, and upon receiving the tip he acted on it by reporting the matter to Gunjur Police Station.

He revealed that an investigation was then mounted which led to the arrest of the convicts. He added that at the Gunjur Police Station, the convicts had confessed committing the crime and were accordingly cautioned and charged.

In a separate development, one Demba Ceesay was recently convicted and sentenced by the Brikama Magistrates' Court to a fine of D800, in default to serve two months imprisonment for wilful damage to property.
