Magistrate Dago of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Ousman Cham to a mandatory jail term of one year, six months with hard labour.
Ousman Cham, who was convicted for the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm, was also ordered to pay a compensation of D2, 500, in default to serve another four months in prison.
The facts of the case as narrated before the court stated that it happened on 13 October 2012, at Manjai Kunda, when the complainant was instructed by his father to go and remove the plastic bag from his TV channel.
The accused met the complainant there and told him not to remove the said plastic bag and then pushed him.
The complainant went to narrate the problem to his father, while the accused was outside with a knife which he used to hit the complainant on his back.
The matter was reported to Manjai Police Station, and the complainant was taken to the RVTH where he was treated and discharged.
The accused was arrested and taken to Manjai Police Station where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
The charge sheet read in court stated that on 13 October 2012, at Manjai Kunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused, Ousman Cham, assaulted one Babucarr Cham with a knife on his left back.
