Alleged fraudster arraigned

A man called Amadou Benteng Camara was yesterday arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and obtaining money by false pretence.

The charge sheet read on count one stated that the accused, Amadou Benteng Camara and Muhammed Jallow, now at large, between October and November 2012, at Senegambia, in the Kanifing Municipality, jointly conspired to commit a felony, therein to wit, defrauded one Dembo Fatty of D230,000.

Count two stated that by false pretence and with intent to defraud, the accused obtained from the said Dembo Fatty D230, 000, under the pretext that he was going to sell gold dust to him, which representation was false.

He denied the charge and was granted court bail of D300, 000 with two Gambian sureties who must deposit ID cards.

The case, presided over by Magistrate Tabally, was adjourned till 21 January 2013, for hearing.
