The
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has declared as “elected” unopposed
Lamin Chatty Councillor for Katchang Ward in Kerewan Area Council.
According to the IEC, the election of Mr Chatty was due to the fact that he was the only candidate nominated at the close of nomination, with no challenger.
“In accordance with Sections 42 and 52 of the Elections Act, Mr Lamin Chatty has been duly nominated through the APRC Party ticket to contest for the position of Councillor for Katchang Ward on the 8th day of January 2015,” press release by the IEC stated.
“Consequently,” the release went on, “an election will not take place since he was the only candidate nominated at the close of nomination.
IEC chairman Alhaji Mustapha L. Carayol therefore declared the result in favour of Mr Chatty.
“Therefore, in accordance with section 53, subsection (1) (a) and (b) of the same Election Act, I hereby declare that Mr Lamin Chatty has been duly elected Councillor for Katchang Ward in the Kerewan Area Council,” IEC Chairman Carayol stated.
