Striker
Ansumana Barry’s second half strike has inspired Buckingham United FC to the
2016 late Modou Janneh Memorial intermediate knockout title.
Buckingham
United FC defeated Dortmund FC 1-0 in a tightly-contested final game played at
the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field on Saturday.
Both
sides made a promising start to the final game and created few goal-scoring
opportunities but the first half failed to produce a goal.
Upon
resumption of the game, both sides picked up where they left in the first half
and piled pressure on each other’s defence line.
It
was Buckingham United FC who carried the trophy after striker Ansumana Barry
netted the winner after the interval to fire Buckingham United to the 2016 late
Modou Janneh Memorial knockout title.
Dortmund
FC responded back for an equaliser but to no avail thus the game ended 1-0 in
favour of Buckingham FC.
As
champions, Buckingham United FC walked away with a giant trophy and a cash
prize of D3,000, whilst Dortmund FC received D2,500 as runners-up.
The
trophy was presented to the winners Buckingham United FC by Tijan Bojang, who
represented the sponsor Buba Kasong Barrow, a Gunjurian residing in the United
Kingdom.
The
runners-up prize was presented by Ahmed S.B Bojang.
Speaking
after the final game, Tijan Bojang, who represented the sponsor Buba Kasong
Barrow, said he was once a member of Gunjur Sports Committee but quit due to
indiscipline.
Bojang
revealed that he was really impressed with level of discipline during the final
match, adding that he now goes to watch matches at the Gunjur Nyamina football
field.
