The Point has learnt through competent sources that Almamy Gassama, who was until last Friday the director of customer service at Gamcel, has been appointed as the new General Manager of the national GSM company.
Gassama, who spent a good number of years at Gamcel rising through the ranks, replaced Phoday Ceesay, who sources said has retired.
When contacted on Sunday, Almamy Gassama confirmed his appointment to The Point and said: “Let me first of all express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic of the Gambia, Sheikh Professor Alhagie Dr Yahya A.J.J Jammeh for the appointment and reassure him that I will live up to expectations.”
Outlining his plans, Gassama said as far as the way forward for Gamcel is concerned, he shall prepare a road map, which shall consist of continuity of the existing program of activities with a view to improving on them.
“On the other hand, my intension is to initiate new programmes and products which shall be subject to the board of directors’ approval through the managing director (Gamtel) in which I have a lot of trust and confidence,” he further told The Point.
