Alleged fraudster charged

One Alkali Jallow was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Fatoumata Drammeh, charged with obtaining money by false pretence, a charge he vehemently denied.

According to the particulars of offence, on 26th January 2010, at West Field area, in the Kanifing Municipality, with intent to defraud, the accused Alkali Jallow, obtained from one Alpha Omar Sowe, the sum of D40, 000 under the pretext that he was going to double the same amount, which representation he knew to be false. 

Meanwhile, the accused was granted a bail in the sum of D50, 000, with two Gambian sureties who must swear to an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned to 2nd March 2010.
