Alleged fraud case heard

The Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate B. Secka recently heard a criminal case of obtaining money by false pretence brought against one Muhammed Sam.

According to the charge sheet, on 12th December 2009 at Latrikunda German in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused, Muhammed Sam, with intent to defraud and by false pretence obtained from one Momodou Njie the sum of D57, 000 with the representation that he is a clearing agent at the Gambia Ports Authority, and that he would clear his three vehicles which representation he knew to be false.

Meanwhile, Muhammed Sam who pleaded not guilty to the charge was granted court bail in the sum of D100, 000 with a Gambian surety who must swear to an affidavit of means and deposit his/her valid national ID Card.

The case was adjourned to 15th September 2010 for continuation.
