Aji Sukai Ndateh Memorial Day is held annually, since 2014, to celebrate and honour Dr Ebrima Malick Samba, the founding father of the school.
Dr Samba, who also founded Muslim Senior Secondary School in Banjul, was the first Gambian surgeon appointed by World Health Organisation.
He is recognised for his vision and education-consciousness in building the two senior secondary schools as contributions to national development.
Speaking on the occasion, Haddy Jammeh, principal of the school, said the annual event is orgainsed to send their appreciation to Dr Samba for his contribution to national development.
“We want to recognise his hard fought achievement and dedication to national development through education and health,” she said.
“Dr Samba’s name would be remembered forever in the history books because of his vision to see that every child has the chance to be educated by building Muslim Senior Secondary School and Aji Sukai Ndateh Senior Secondary School.”
Madam Jammeh called on other Gambians to emulate Dr Samba’s contribution towards the development of the education sector.
The school principal also called on the students to promote their culture for that could help in pursuing their education.
She further advised them to take their education seriously saying “you must be disciplined if you want to make a successful carrier”.
