The overall aim of the grant agreement is to achieve Zero New HIV Infection, Zero AIDS related Deaths and Zero Stigma and Discrimination in the Gambia. It will last for 30 months with a total funding envelope of three million, six hundred and eighty eight thousand, five hundred and twenty seven United States dollars (USD 3,688,527.00) meant to strengthen the acceleration of access to prevention, treatment care and support.
The grant forms part of the resources mobilized to support the implementation of the National HIV and AIDS strategic plan 2015- 2019. The funding is an investment by the Global Fund with priorities focused to yield maximum strategic impact toward the attainment of Zero New HIV infection, Zero AIDS related Deaths and Zero Stigma and Discrimination in the Gambia.
Under the agreement, ActionAid will be working with four Sub-Recipients (SRs) and other four Sub-Sub Recipients (SSRs).
The SRs are the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Hands On Care (HOC), Gambia Family Planning Association (GFPA) and World View (WV). GAMNASS, ADWAC, Future In Our Hands (FIOH), Nova Scotia Gambia Association (NSGA) are the SSRs.
HIV and AIDS is still a public health problem in the Gambia with HIV prevalence among the 15 to 49 year age cohort at 1.9%. Characteristically, the country has a generalized epidemic with pockets of high prevalence among Key Affected Population.
