Accused opens defence

Muhammed Jawo, a resident of Latria Village recently testified before Principal Magistrate Effim of the Brikama Magistrates' Court in an assault, causing actual bodily harm.

In his evidence-in-chief, the accused Muhammed Jawo told the court that the incident happened on 10th January 2010, when cattle owned by one Abdou entered into the garden of the complainant, Omar Drammeh.

According to him, the said Abou went to chase them out when the complainant and others chased him (Abou), who took on his heels as he pastured the cattle.

He added that he (accused) who was with his cattle was later attacked by the complainant and others in the presence of a lady. He said during the scuffle he was chopped with a cutlass, and in the process his shirt got torn.

He testified further that the said lady took him to her home, and gave him a shirt and a pair of shoes.

Subsequently, he said he was arrested and taken to Yumdum Police Station.

The case was adjourned to April 15th 2010.
