Magistrate Kayode of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Amadou Jallow to one month in prison upon his own plea of guilt for the offence of assault.
Narrating the facts, Inspector Mballow told the court that the incident happened on 1st June 2010, when the convict drove and parked his vehicle infront of the complainant's shop (Renneth Agen).
He narrated that when the complainant told the convict to leave the door for customers it did not go down well with the convict, who subsequently pulled out a container with liquid and sprayed the complainant's face with it, causing him actual bodily harm. Inspector Mballow further narrated that some people came to the aid of the complainant and the matter was subsequently reported to the Serrekunda Police Station.
According to him, the complainant was referred to Sheikh Zayid Medical Centre where he was treated and issued with a medical certificate. The prosecution then tendered the medical certificate as an exhibit
The convict, who has pleaded guilty to the charges, begged the court to temper justice with mercy, as he is a student.
He said that he even begged the complainant to forgive him for his action, as he only used the spray to threaten him, but did not spray directly to the complainant's face.
