The mayor
of Ziguinchor Abdoulaye Baldé responded Monday to the summons of Senegal’s
Court for the Suppression of the Illicit Enrichment (CREI). Accompanied by his
lawyers, Balde came to give evidence on the “lawful origins” of his fortune,
estimated by the court at 5 billion CFA francs.
He left the
court, which sits at Dakar’s Palais de Justice premises, just minutes after his
arrival.
Meanwhile,
Balde’s supporters came from as far as Ziguinchor to attend the session, but
were kept away about 1 km from the premises of the CREI by the police.
