One Fatou Tamba was on Friday 14th August 2009, arraigned before Justice Mosses Richard of the Special Criminal Court at the Banjul High Court on a charge of infanticide.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on 15th March 2009, at the Kanifing Estate in the Republic of The Gambia, wilfully caused the dead of her newly born baby by burying the child alive.
When the charge was read to her in the language she claimed to understand, she vehemently denied the alleged offence preferred against her.
As the vacation sitting will be subject to counsel diary, the Defence Counsel Hajum Gaye informed the court that she's supposed to go on vacation, and then applied for an adjournment till the commencement of the next term.
State Counsel Bahoum, who is expected to call six witnesses to help him prove his case, did not object to the application as he too needed time to put his house in order.
Subsequently, the case was adjourned to 6th October 2009 for trial.
