Sixteen players, including four officials of the Gambia National U-17 team yesterday left Banjul to take part in a return leg friendly game against their Senegalese counterparts as part of the preparation before the start of the much-talked about U-17 World Cup, slated for October 24th to be staged in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Readers would recall that the two teams were involved in a hard-fought one-all draw during the first leg play in Banjul, where the rejuvenated Senegalese team proved to be a better side of the day as a result of their dominance in the game.

The match will take place in Dakar on Saturday and is expected to be followed by a six day international football tournament in Nigeria.

The tournament which is organised by the Pepsi Football Academy had attracted interest from countries such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, The Gambia and another football academy from Nigeria.

This Pepsi Football Academy Tournament will also witness the presentation of medals to three best teams of the tournament, 16th most outstanding players of the tournament, best defence line and the best forward line, while the leading-goal scorer of the tournament would also be awarded.

The U-17 team will return home after the Saturday friendly before moving to Nigeria to take part in the Pepsi Academy Football Tournament, which will kick-off on August 17th and ends on 22nd.

Plans are also underway for the team to take part in a training camp possibly in the U.K, all geared towards preparation ahead of the U-17 World Cup.
