The seventh edition of the Abdoulie Saine’s Memorial Trophy competition was held last weekend at the Parochial Hall in Banjul.
The championship, hosted by Dobson Draughts vous, was organised and sponsored by the Mansajang Solicitors and the Saine family.
The competition, annually celebrated by the Saine family in memory of their late relative Abdoulie Saine, brought together numerous participants from across the greater Banjul area who took part in the first round of this year’s annual competition on Friday.
Speaking to Pointsport, the treasurer of the Gambia National Draught Association and the coordinator of the tournament, Gibril Z. Martin, revealed that the championship is held annually to upkeep the memory of their late grandfather, father and uncle.
He said the late Abdoulie Saine was a great player who used to represent the Gambia at international draught competitions.
“He was a humble man who was open to people, and was able to win all the competitions he took part in, and we are proud of him,” Martin said.
